What’s new at The First Tee of Tampa Bay

Golf Channel- Terese Romeo's Interview

TFTTB member and Hillsborough County’s 2012 Girls Player of the Year Terese Romeo was featured on the Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” this past Wednesday, February 13th. As always, Terese represented herself and TFTTB with class and humility and we are proud of what she has accomplished already both on and off the course. Two New Program Sites

The First Tee of Tampa Bay is introducing two new program sites for the June session of its Group Golf Lessons program - Cheval Golf & Country Club in Lutz and Heritage Isles Golf Club in the New Tampa area. This brings the total number of TFTTB program locations to eleven. Click on the "Programs" section for full details.

National Schools Program Training in Tampa

On Wednesday, August 15, more than 200 elementary Physical Education teachers from Hillsborough County gathered at Liberty Middle School for training on The First Tee’s National Schools Program (NSP). Thank you to all of our Board Members, Friends and Champions who were in attendance.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Franklin Middle School

On Monday, September 17, The First Tee of Tampa Bay and Hillsborough County Public Schools held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Franklin Middle School to open the new Golf Training Center at Boys Preparatory Academy. The Golf Training Center, which includes a full swing area and large putting green, provides a vehicle for students to learn the fundamentals, rules and etiquette of the game. In addition, the children will also have greater access to The First Tee's Nine Core Values, Nine Healthy Habits and Life Skills Experience that are taught in all First Tee programs. The First Tee of Tampa Bay, a program branch of the Tampa YMCA, serves thousands of children each year throughout the Greater Tampa area.

Research Validates

In a past independent research study of The First Tee, 73% of young people at participating chapters reported high confidence in their ability to do well academically and 52% credited the program fort their ability to appreciate diversity.
